YMCA Reindeer Ramble 5K Run/Walk Raises $11,000 for YMCA Summer Camps

A record 1,000 runners and walkers participated in the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s fourth annual Reindeer Ramble 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Dec. 12 at Keeneland. The event raised over $11,000 to support YMCA summer camps, ensuring that no child is turned away due to inability to pay. In 2009, over 1,700 children attended YMCA of Central Kentucky summer camps and the YMCA awarded more than $1 million in financial assistance towards programs such as summer camps, youth sports and
afterschool programs

The Reindeer Ramble is unique in that participants are encouraged to dress up and show their holiday spirit or even to form Sanatapedes, teams of 3-10 participants who are attached by ribbon or string like a team of reindeer.

The top finisher was Zack Sanchez, in a time of 16:51. Kate Bowman was the first female finisher in 20:05. J’s Rebels were the top Santapede team, with a time of 18:24.

The Reindeer Ramble was sponsored in part by B92 FM, 96.9 Kiss FM, WDKY Fox 56, Tops in Lex, Elite Printing, 10th Planet and UPS.
