YMCA Receives RIF Funds from Macy's

On Wednesday, January 13, the Macy's store in Fayette Mall presented the YMCA of Central Kentucky with $6,723 to go to the local Reading is Fundamental program. In the fall of 2009, the local Macy's store, under the direction of General Manager Thomas Bruenderman, participated in Macy's, Inc.'s nation-wide campaign to support RIF. The store sold coupons for $3, with $1 going to the national RIF campaign, $1 going to RIF multicultural program and $1 going to the local RIF program, which is operated by the YMCA. The YMCA of Central Kentucky partners with various local agencies and programs in suppport of literacy and education. In 2009, the Y helped distribute  9,880 free books to area children. Funds from the RIF donation will support these efforts, including a new class being offered by the YMCA that will encourage children to read, write and create through their love of comic books. For more information about the local RIF program and other literacy programs supported by the YMCA, please contact the YMCA Community Services at 226-0393.
