YMCA Presents Volunteer of the Year Awards
The YMCA of Central Kentucky held its annual celebration
honoring its volunteers of the year on Thursday, April 29 at the Red Mile Clubhouse. The Red Triangle Award, the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s top recognition for a volunteer whose actions exemplify the YMCA triangle of spirit, mind and body, was presented to Christie Hockensmith. Hockensmith, who is a general lines insurance agent with the Hockensmith Agency, has served many roles with the YMCA, including chair of the Scott County YMCA board and member of the marketing committee. Currently, Hockensmith is Chair-Elect of the YMCA Metro Board of Directors, is chair of the Board Development Committee and recently co-chaired the Strategic Planning Committee.
The YMCA also awarded its Spirit, Mind, Body Award to Hiang
Thé, who has been working with the YMCA since 1999. The Spirit, Mind, Body Award is given to a YMCA part-time staff member who has been with the organization for at least five years and goes above and beyond in their service to the YMCA and its members. Thé’s Central Shaolin Martial Arts program classes have become some of the most popular at the Y and serve as a model for martial arts programs nationwide. The program offers a variety of martial arts, self-defense and meditation classes at four YMCA branch locations, six days a week, for people of all ages.
The YMCA also presented the branch Volunteer of the Year awards to the following recipients for their dedicated service to the YMCA of Central Kentucky:
Beaumont Centre Family YMCA: Mary Beth Magyar
High Street YMCA: Ann-Phillips Mayfield
Jessamine County YMCA: Lester Johnson
North Lexington Family YMCA: Dr. William Bernard
Scott County YMCA: Scott Turner
YMCA Community Services: Yvonne Giles
YMCA Child Development: Joan Green
