Tri-Y Kids Triathlon

Sunday, August 01, 2010

As part of the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s ongoing commitment to encourage active, healthy lifestyles in youth and teens, the 6th Annual Tri-Y Kids Triathlon will be held on Sunday, August 1 at the Beaumont Centre Family YMCA with check-in beginning at 6:45 a.m. The triathlon, which begins at 7:30 a.m., is open to any children ages 7-14. Early registration is underway and offers reduced fees of $20 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members. After July 9, the fee is $30 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members. No registrations will be accepted after July 29, including race day.

Children ages 7-8 will swim 100 yards, bike 2 miles and run one half a mile. Children ages 9-10 will swim 100 yards, bike 4 miles and run 1 mile. Children ages 11-14 will swim 200 yards, bike 6 miles and run 1.25 miles. All participants will receive a certificate and a t-shirt.

YMCA Open Water Swim August 14

Saturday, August 14, 2010

On Saturday, August 14, the YMCA of Central Kentucky will coordinate an Open Water Swim at Cave Run. YMCA membership is not required to participate. The events will include swims of 1/2 mile, 1 mile and 1 1/2 miles. The cost is $30. Registration forms are available at any YMCA of Central Kentucky branch. YMCA AQUATICS
For the last 120 years, the YMCA has been recognized as the nation’s swim instructor, teaching safety and confidence in the water. With more then 2,200 pools, YMCAs are collectively the largest operator of swimming pools in the United States and the YMCA is committed to helping people of all ages learn basic swimming skills and water safety practices. In 2009, the YMCA of Central Kentucky helped over 8,900 area children learn such skills through the Splash program and swim lessons.

YMCA Black Achievers Hosts Evening with the Eagles

The YMCA Black Achievers program and the North Lexington Family YMCA are hosting “Evening with the Eagles” on Tuesday, September 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the North Lexington Family YMCA, located at 381 W. Loudon Avenue. This event will give local students the opportunity to learn more about Morehead State University, which will be represented by alumni as well as staff from financial aid, admissions and academic departments. Attendees will have a chance to enter a drawing for a $1,000 housing scholarship applicable to Morehead State University housing.
 
Morehead State University is a partnering institution with YMCA Black Achievers and frequently provides scholarships to Black Achievers participants.
 
The Black Achievers program, which has been serving central Kentucky since 1985, is open to students in Fayette and surrounding counties. YMCA Black Achievers endeavors to provide exposure to present and future educational/career opportunities, instill positive social values, ignite students’ thirst for knowledge, enable students to reach their full potential by creating opportunities for adults and the community to participate in their lives, and empower families to assist students in reaching higher goals.
